It is hard, if not impossible, to identify which school has the most complete athletic program in any state. But MaxPreps tries to solve the puzzle with its annual MaxPreps Cup.
For the 13th time since the inception of the MaxPreps Cup, Bentonville takes the crown in Arkansas as the NWA powerhouse finished with 1,817 points. The MaxPreps Cup was first introduced 14 years ago.
Bentonville won state championships in boys & girls cross country, boys & girls swimming, boys wrestling, boys soccer, boys & girls track & field, and softball while adding a runner-up in football.
Brookland (912) finished second, helped by state championships in boys & girls golf. Mountain Home (867), Pulaski Academy (851), and Rogers (770) rounded out the top five for the Natural State.
The national website, which is the official scores, schedules, and statistics partner of the AAA, "uses an algorithm that awards points for state championships, runner-up finishes and national rankings based on size of state, popularity of the sport, size of school and number of teams in each playoff division," according to this year's news article.
